1965: Malcolm X Visits the Dartmouth Campus
In January 1965 Malcolm X arrived at Dartmouth for a speech at the invitation of Ahmed Osmen, Class of 1965. Osmen had met Malcolm a few years earlier, in 1962, at a mosque in Harlem.[i] While on campus, Malcolm stayed overnight in Cutter Hall and spoke in Spaulding Auditorium as a part of the Undergraduate Lecture Series. He answered questions, moderated by Osman. Malcolm’s lecture was titled “The Black Revolution in America.” There are no known manuscripts of the speech.
